The child's life is put in danger by the clan's retaliation, but just then Vito makes his last gesture of love: sacrificing himself to save his son. In Pietro's gaze, that sacrifice does not erase the hero, but makes him real, forever transforming his image of "Super Vito" into that of a father capable of choosing good.
