Watch fate FilmoFlix. The film "Fate" was based on the true story of Clara Smith Hamon, who murdered her Oklahoma millionaire oilman boyfriend, Jake Hamon. Clara was acquitted of the charges, began a love affair with John Gorman, the president of Gorman pictures, and starred in the film version of her own story, fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a movie star. A country-wide protest, however, quashed her dreams, and all copies of the film were burned, leaving only a still shot to mark it's former existence.
